An integrated model of art and science: Fabio Mancini European school project- Preliminary data
Abstract
Adolescence is a critical period characterized by significant physical and psycho-cognitive changes, often accompanied by affective, emotional, and social-relational challenges. Recent trends in developmental psychology have shifted from viewing this phase as predominantly problematic to adopting a positive psychology paradigm, focusing on promoting individual well-being through self-awareness and the development of potential. This project aims to monitor and assess students’ psychological well-being and to analyze the impact of a direct communication model involving a public figure, Fabio Mancini, an international supermodel and iconic male fashion figure in the school setting. To monitor the level of subjective well-being among Italian school students by administering the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). A key innovation of this project is the involvement of an international supermodel as a mediator and facilitator, thereby providing a positive model of dialogue and direct interaction with adolescents. This approach stands in contrast to the widespread trend of virtual and media-mediated relationships, with the goal of offering a concrete example of physical and mental well-being achieved through a healthy lifestyle. The project involved 96,320 students from 155 Italian schools, with an average age of 14 years. The intervention consists of administering the OHQ questionnaire immediately after motivational meetings led by Fabio Mancini. These meetings are designed to encourage reflection on healthy lifestyles, emotional awareness, resilience, and authentic interpersonal relationships. The results showed that only 5% of students declared themselves very happy, 51% moderately happy, and 33% quite unhappy. It also emerged that 66% did not feel particularly healthy, but 84.8% believed in school education. A considerable 97% of students approved the new communication model with Fabio Mancini to address relevant topics and issues facing the new generations. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to promote good practices for real, direct, healthy, and constructive relationships among adolescents, both with their peers and in interactions with family, educational institutions, and society. By fostering these skills and attitudes from early adolescence, the project aims to support the development of sustained individual well-being, integrating lifelong learning with lifelong well-being. This approach aligns with current educational trends in various European countries, including Italy, which are moving away from digitally focused models toward more traditional, cooperative, and social learning environments to guarantee individual well-being.
