Introduction: Respiratory therapy using the Expiratory Flow Increased Technique (EFIT) is a treatment strategy for newborns employed both in Poland and worldwide. The aim of this study was to present the current state of knowledge regarding the use of EFIT in the respiratory therapy of preterm infants with respiratory failure.

Methods: Databases including PubMed, Medline, Embase, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched for studies on EFIT therapy in infants published between January 2020 and September 2024.

Results: Five publications concerning neonatal respiratory therapy and focusing specifically on EFIT were identified; three of these involved preterm infants. None of the studies reported long-term outcomes, and only two included control groups. Based on the available literature, it can be concluded that EFIT therapy improves respiratory parameters.

Conclusions: The knowledge and experience gained regarding the impact of EFIT on the respiratory systems of preterm infants encourage further research into this method. This is particularly relevant given that available literature indicates EFIT is an effective and safe method, especially considering the physiological instability and immaturity of preterm infants.
